The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) on Sunday urged international donors to urgently provide $25 million to aid those affected by floods in Yemen.
This came in a post by the UNHCR Shelter Cluster on X, which was retweeted by the agency’s official account and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen.
The cluster stated, “Urgent appeal for Yemen. Devastating floods have affected over 294,000 people,” without specifying a timeframe.
It added, “Our partners have provided life-saving assistance to 67,500 people, but there is still a funding gap of $25 million.”
The UN cluster directed its appeal to donors, saying, “Your support can save lives. Donate now.”
Since the beginning of this month, heavy rainfall in Yemen has increased, leading to the deaths of dozens and affecting many residents, especially those living in displacement camps.
The United Nations had previously announced that the number of people affected by floods and rains that hit Yemen last week had risen to 180,000, double the number announced the previous week.
