UN: 98 victims in Yemen Floods

Yemen Monitor/New York/Exclusive:

The United Nations said that 98 people have been killed in floods and rains over the past few days.

This came in a speech by Lisa Grande, Director of the Financing and Partnerships Branch at the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, to the Security Council on Thursday.

She added: Over the past ten days, heavy rains and flash floods have hit several governorates in Yemen, causing damage to homes, farms, and public infrastructure.

She continued: About 69,500 families have been directly affected, and many have lost their homes and livelihoods. Nearly 98 people were killed and more than 600 others were injured.

She noted that humanitarian partner organizations are providing immediate life-saving assistance – including food, water, sanitation supplies, and shelter support for affected families.

The Houthis recently closed the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Sanaa and forcibly entered the office archives, seizing UN assets.
