Ship Under Multiple Attacks Within Hours: What’s Happening in the Red Sea?
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom
Officials have reported that a ship in the Red Sea was targeted in a third suspected Houthi attack on Tuesday, as part of their ongoing campaign in response to the Israeli war on Gaza.
These attacks come as Iran considers a potential retaliation against Israel for the assassination of Hamas official Ismail Haniyeh in July, renewing fears of a wider regional war in the Middle East.
According to the Associated Press, Houthi attacks have already disrupted the flow of a trillion dollars’ worth of annual goods through the sea route, which is vital for trade between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. It has also sparked the most intense naval combat for the US Navy since World War II.
The UKMTO reported that the ship was first attacked about 115 kilometers south of the Houthi-controlled coastal city of Hodeidah. It added that an explosive device detonated near the ship, and then a small vessel “acting suspiciously” flashed a light near the ship and approached it, followed by a second explosion.
EMBRY also reported the attacks, stating that the ship experienced “two very close explosions.”
