Yemenis live a Grueling Night: Lightning, Fires, and Torrential Rains

Several Yemeni governorates experienced a harrowing night due to torrential downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning of unprecedented intensity.

The rainfall caused widespread damage, particularly in the eastern governorates of Shabwa and Marib, where heavy rain, large hailstones, and terrifying lightning strikes were reported.

Local residents in Shabwa reported that the rain in Bayhan district was exceptionally heavy, accompanied by lightning strikes that ignited palm trees by striking their roots.

In Marib (northeastern Yemen), Yemen Monitor correspondent reported that lightning strikes accompanying the rain and thunderstorms on Sunday morning led to the burning of orange trees, damage to homes, and the death of 7 livestock in “Al-Juboul” area on the outskirts of the city.

In Hajjah Governorate, a local source confirmed that a lightning strike killed a citizen named “Fouad Ali Muhammad Maqdam” in the village of “Al-Wa’aliyah” in Al-Muftah district.

The same sources added that another lightning strike hit a village in the neighboring Mahabish district, killing a citizen named “Ahmed Ali Abdullah Al-Asadi”.

Furthermore, a lightning strike in Al-Jawf Governorate (northeastern Yemen) on Sunday evening resulted in the burning of a palm plantation in Al-Hazm district, the governorate’s center.
