Yemen Calls for International Support to Address Climate Change Impacts and Assist Flood Victims

Head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council ,Rashad Al-Alimi, called on Sunday for international support to bolster government efforts in addressing the impacts of climate change, particularly the aftermath of the natural disaster that struck the governorates of Hajjah, Hodeidah, Taiz, and Marib.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency, the call came during a meeting between President Al-Alimi and the US Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin.
The meeting discussed the required international interventions to support government efforts in assisting those affected by the rains and floods, and to repair the damaged services in the four affected governorates.
President Al-Alimi briefed the US ambassador on the national economic and humanitarian situation, which has been exacerbated by the attacks of the Houthi militias, with Iranian support, on oil facilities and commercial shipping vessels.
For his part, the US ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to provide immediate assistance to support government efforts to help those affected by the floods and rains, in accordance with assessments by international organizations and humanitarian partners in Yemen.
The Yemeni government had previously called on all partners to respond quickly and provide urgent support in all its forms to provide relief to those affected, rehabilitate vital infrastructure, and prevent further loss of life and property.
Heavy rains and floods have led to the death and injury of dozens in several cities, with the latest being the death of four people today in the eastern governorate of Marib.
