Yemen Monitor/ News Section
Yemen’s Meteorological Center issued a warning on Friday about the continuation of heavy rains across large swathes of the country over the coming hours.
The center indicated that partially cloudy to cloudy skies are expected, with varying intensities of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in parts of the governorates of Saada, Hajjah, Amran, Mahwit, Sana’a, Dhamar, Raymah, Ibb, and Al-Dhale.
It also noted that moderate to heavy rain, sometimes accompanied by thunder, is expected in parts of Taiz, Al-Bayda, the highlands of Lahj, Abyan, Shabwa, Hadramaut, and Mahra, with fog or mist forming in the western highlands.
In coastal areas, partly cloudy and relatively dusty weather is expected, with maximum temperatures ranging between 32-37 degrees Celsius. Very strong winds are expected around Socotra Archipelago, with a maximum speed of 45 knots, and moderate to strong winds on the eastern, southern, and western coasts, stirring up dust and sand with varying intensities of thundery rainfall in parts of the western coasts and Tihama Plain. Scattered rain, sometimes accompanied by thunder, is expected on the eastern and southern coasts.
The center reported “clear to partly cloudy skies, high temperatures during the day, with a maximum of 36-41 degrees Celsius, with the possibility of scattered rain in parts of Mahra, Hadramaut, Shabwa, Al-Jawf, and Marib governorates, and moderate winds that are sometimes active, stirring up dust and sand.”
The Meteorological Center warned citizens in areas expected to receive rainfall to exercise caution and avoid low-lying areas and flood channels during and after rainfall, and to beware of thunderstorms, strong downdrafts, and hail.
It also advised drivers to be cautious due to reduced visibility caused by rain and low clouds on mountain roads, and to avoid rocky slopes and crossing over ground bridges during floods.
The center appealed to the relevant official authorities in the country to take the necessary measures and precautions to protect lives and property and to follow its issued bulletins and reports.
