The United Nations announced on Monday that over 28,000 person have been affected by floods that hit Hajjah Governorate in northwestern Yemen in the past few hours.
The United Nations Population Fund tweeted today, stating that “last night, more than 28,000 people in four districts of Hajjah Governorate were affected by heavy rain and floods.”
The Fund added that “United Nations rapid response teams, led by the United Nations Population Fund, are continuing assessment and response operations,” explaining that these teams “have so far registered more than 4,112 families for emergency relief.”
The rainy season in Yemen typically begins in March and often causes human and material losses in a country already suffering from severe deficiencies in services and infrastructure.
