Large Areas in Western Taiz Declared Disaster Zones Following Flash Floods

Flash floods that swept through the Maqbanah district in western Taiz governorate over the past few hours have caused significant damage to lives, property, agricultural land, and infrastructure.
A local source told Yemen Monitor that five citizens are still missing as a result of the floods, which have turned several villages into disaster zones.
Activists on social media have shared videos documenting the extent of the destruction caused by the heavy rains in the Al-Hajjar village of Maqbanah district. The floods washed away fruit-bearing trees such as palm, banana, and mango, as well as other crops.
Local residents reported that a number of houses in the villages of Shamir and Mirab in western Taiz governorate collapsed due to the heavy rains that hit the area.
According to local residents, more than ten houses were partially or completely damaged or destroyed, amidst reports of casualties among civilians.
Residents explained that the floods swept away the “Hijjah al-Uja” mosque in Maqbanah, in addition to washing away a cemetery and partially damaging it.
