Removal of Former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his Son Ahmed Saleh from Sanctions List
Yemen Monitor / New York / Special:
On Wednesday, the United Nations Security Council removed former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his son Ahmed from the sanctions list imposed on them for collaborating with the Houthis during their takeover of Sana’a in 2014.
According to the Security Council’s sanctions committee under resolution 2140, the United Nations has lifted the sanctions on the two men.
Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh will now be able to leave the United Arab Emirates; Saleh’s family will also be able to access the family’s funds, which are estimated at $32 billion, according to a previous United Nations report.
The Houthis killed former President Ali Abdullah Saleh at the end of 2017 after he attempted to shift his allegiance from the Houthis to their opposition and support the Saudi-led coalition against the armed group.
