The new Iranian president, Masoud Bezhskeian, pledged on Tuesday to provide the Houthi armed group in Yemen with more support and stronger relations than his predecessors.

This came during his meeting with the head of the Houthi negotiating delegation and spokesman, Mohammed Abdul Salam, coinciding with his swearing-in as president of Iran before the Consultative Assembly.

Bezhskeian said that “the relationship between Iran and the Houthis is based on shared beliefs and culture that cannot be compromised.”

He referred to the militia’s attacks in the Red Sea, describing them as very important and effective, and claiming that they exerted clear pressure on the Zionist entity and its supporters.

He stated that the Houthis’ resistance to the pressures of the arrogant has great value and is worthy of praise, stressing that unity and cohesion strengthen the power of Islamic countries, as he put it.

In turn, Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdul Salam considered that their strong position today is due to Iran’s solidarity and support for them,” expressing his hope that their cooperation will expand further to provide mutual interests.

Mohammed Abdul Salam indicated that they will continue to coordinate with Iran in various fields to confront common challenges.

Earlier, the Iranian president took the constitutional oath before the Consultative Assembly (parliament) to officially become the ninth president of the republic, succeeding President Ibrahim Raisi who died in a helicopter crash last May.

In his speech after taking the oath, the new president said that Iran is beginning a new chapter, affirming that he will work to protect the rights of the Iranian people at the international level, and will lead a national unity government that works according to the vision of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei.
