Yemeni President Responds to Criticism Over Withdrawal from Central Bank Decisions

Rashad al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, stated that Yemenis will realize that he was right “when he made the decisions regarding the Central Bank.”
This is the first statement from the Yemeni president regarding the council’s reversal of the Central Bank’s decisions in Aden aimed at organizing the financial system.
He said, “We are thinking of the welfare of the people, and the picture will become clear to them today, in a month, or in a year; and the inattentive will know in 5 or 10 years.”
Al-Alimi praised the Presidential Leadership Council’s decision, referring to it as “historic and responsible, in the interest of the people regarding the decisions of the Central Bank, and things will become clearer to you day by day.”
This statement came during a speech he forwarded to officials, scholars, and mosque imams and preachers in Hadhramaut province in eastern Yemen.
Last week, Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, announced an agreement between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group on measures to de-escalate economic and banking tensions and expand direct flights from Sana’a to include Cairo and India.
The Presidential Leadership Council has faced criticism for yielding to Houthi conditions and Saudi pressure in the agreement, which marked the last card the Council had against the Houthis
