Houthi Group Denies Existence of Oil Export Agreement

Yemen Monitor/ Sana’a/ Exclusive:

The Houthi armed group on Monday denied the existence of any agreement related to the resumption of oil exports.

Sources had told Yemen Monitor that the head of the Presidential Leadership Council was in Hadramaut in preparation for the export of oil based on an economic “de-escalation” agreement announced by the United Nations last week.

In a statement published by the official agency, an official in the Houthi Supreme Economic Committee said that what is being circulated in this regard is merely baseless rumors.

He reiterated that the resumption of exports is “firmly linked to the payment of the salaries of state employees,” which the Houthis have not paid for years.

He directed companies and institutions not to violate the group’s decision, which began in October.

Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, had announced on Tuesday an agreement between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group on measures to de-escalate the economic and banking situation and expand direct flights from Sana’a to include Cairo and India.
