The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Thursday that it is providing Yemen with various medical equipment to support the country’s deteriorating health sector.

In a press release, the organization stated that “it has launched the delivery of vital medical equipment in the southern Yemeni city of Aden to strengthen the country’s health system.”

The statement added that “this achievement is a significant step towards addressing the urgent health challenges in the country.” The value of the medical equipment is estimated at approximately $2 million USD, according to the statement.

The statement clarified that “this equipment will be distributed to hospitals and public health facilities across Yemen, with a particular focus on supporting patients in intensive care units.” The statement further added, “We are committed not only to meeting urgent needs but also to strengthening Yemen’s healthcare infrastructure in the long term.” Yemen is experiencing a severe health crisis, with about 17.8 million people in need of health assistance. Only 50% of hospitals across the country are fully or partially operational, and many face challenges such as staff shortages, supply shortages, and outdated equipment. These health problems have been exacerbated by frequent power outages and financial constraints, hindering the provision of basic healthcare services to most of the population.
