Egypt Considering Resuming Flights Between Cairo and Sana’a

Yemeni Monitor/Newsroom

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that it will continue to study the possibility of operating a direct air route between Cairo and Sana’a (held by the Houthis), in accordance with the relevant considerations and procedures, including technical and logistical ones.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry welcomed the announcement by the UN envoy to Yemen of an agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthis to ease the Yemeni crisis, as part of Egypt’s full support for all regional and international efforts in this regard.

Egypt expressed its hope that this agreement will be a prelude to a comprehensive settlement of the Yemeni crisis, in accordance with the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people, in line with the agreed-upon references and resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

Earlier, the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced that the Yemeni government and the Houthi group had informed him of their agreement on a number of measures to de-escalate the situation in the banking sector and Yemeni Airways.

The UN envoy indicated that “the agreement includes the cancellation of recent decisions and measures against banks by both sides and a halt to any future similar decisions or measures.”

The agreement also stipulates the resumption of Yemeni Airways flights between Sana’a and Amman, increasing the number of flights to three per a day, and operating flights to Cairo and India daily or as needed.
