Thunderstorms with hail expected in most provinces in Yemen

The National Meteorology Center has predicted that rain with thunderstorms will continue to fall on several provinces during the coming hours.

It said that the mountainous highlands will witness partly cloudy skies turning to cloudy with varying intensity thunderstorms, accompanied by hail at times, in parts of the provinces of (Sa’dah, Mahwit, Amran, Sana’a, Rimah, Dhamar, Ibb, Al Dhale’e, and the highlands of Lahj, Abyan and Shabwah) and scattered rains accompanied by thunder at times on parts of the provinces of (Mahra, Hadramout, Al Bayda, Taiz and Hajjah) in the afternoon and evening hours with the possibility of fog or mist on parts of the western and southwestern highlands at night and early morning.

In the coastal areas, partly cloudy and relatively dusty skies are expected, hot where the maximum temperatures range between (34-40 degrees Celsius), and the winds are very strong on Socotra Archipelago, reaching a maximum speed of 50 knots, and moderate to strong at times on the eastern and southern coasts ranging in speed between (20 to 30) knots, stirring up dust and sand and scattered rains on the southern and eastern coasts and parts of Tihama Plain.

In the desert areas, the weather is expected to be clear to partly cloudy, very hot during the day, with maximum temperatures ranging between (41-45 degrees Celsius) and moderate to active winds that stir up dust and sand, and scattered rains on the deserts of the provinces of (Mahra and Hadramout).

Citizens are warned against being in the valleys and flood paths, and are advised to take shelter from thunderstorms in the mountainous highlands where rain is expected.

Motorists are advised to be cautious of reduced visibility due to rain or fog.

Seafarers, fishermen and boat captains are urged to be aware of rough seas and high waves around Socotra Archipelago, East Aden Gulf, and the eastern and southern coasts.

Residents of desert areas, plains and coastal areas are warned against the hot and very hot weather and are advised to avoid direct exposure to sunlight and drink plenty of fluids.
