The Houthis announced on Sunday that the death toll from the airstrikes carried out by Israeli warplanes on Hodeidah Province, western Yemen, has risen to six dead and 87 injured.
According to Anis al-Asbhi, a spokesman for the Health Ministry in Sana’a affiliated with the Houthis, “Six civilians were martyred, and 83 others were injured, most of them severely, while three others are still missing.”
For his part, Ali Ahmed Qishr, a deputy governor of Hodeidah appointed by the Houthis, said that fires are still raging despite the efforts of the firefighting teams affiliated with the Civil Defense to put out the flames. He also pointed out that the Israeli airstrikes have caused significant material losses.
On Saturday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that Israel attacked the Houthis in Yemen to send a message after they harmed an Israeli citizen.
Gallant said in a statement: “The fires currently burning in Hodeidah can be seen throughout the Middle East and the Gulf. The aim is clear.”
The Israeli military said it had struck several “military targets” in the western coastal city of Hodeidah, overlooking the Red Sea, adding that its attack was in response to “hundreds of attacks” carried out against Israel in recent months.
