Israeli Newspaper: Houthi Drone Targeted the US Embassy in “Tel Aviv”
Yemen Monitor/Marib:
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Friday that the drone launched by the Houthis, which caused an explosion in Tel Aviv, was targeting the US embassy.
It added that the drone came from the sea and flew at a low altitude before exploding, and supposed to be developed by Iranian experts.
CNN quoted a White House official as saying: “The president was also briefed on the drone attack in Tel Aviv during the night.”
The US State Department said that no damage was reported at the US diplomatic mission and there were no reports of injuries among American personnel or “local staff”.
A State Department spokesperson added: “We are in close contact with Israeli authorities to conduct a full investigation into the source of the explosion and its intended target”.
Early on Friday, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation said that “one Israeli was killed and 10 were injured after a drone crashed in central Tel Aviv, hundreds of meters from the US embassy” – and the Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack.
