The Houthis’ claim of responsibility for a drone attack on Tel Aviv on Friday has sparked heated debates among Israeli occupation leaders over who is accountable for the attack, with threats of targeting Yemen emerging.
Israeli media reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held telephone consultations with security chiefs regarding the circumstances of the Yemeni drone targeting Tel Aviv.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the commander of the Israeli Air Force cut short his visit to Britain following the drone attack on Tel Aviv on Friday.
For his part, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said after the drone attack on Tel Aviv that they would hold accountable anyone who harms the State of Israel or carries out terrorism against it.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority said that a powerful strike in Yemeni territory is being considered at both the military and security levels.
Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli army is studying a change in strategy towards the Houthis in Yemen.
In Washington, a spokesman for the US National Security Council said on Friday that the White House condemns the new attack on Israel, adding that it is “the latest in the Houthis’ reckless and destabilizing actions.”
Early this morning, an Israeli was killed and 10 others were slightly injured, and panic ensued following the explosion of a bomb-laden drone at 3:15 am at the intersection of Shalom Aleichem and Ben Yehuda Streets, just a few hundred meters from the US embassy.
The Israeli army has launched an investigation to determine why the drone launched by the Houthis towards Tel Aviv was not intercepted.
An Israeli military official said that a “very large drone capable of flying long distances” was used in the Tel Aviv attack, stressing that “human error” caused the interception and defense systems not to be activated, adding “no alarm was issued in Tel Aviv because it was not activated.”
