Yemen Monitor/Newsroom
A suspected Houthi attack in Yemen targeted a ship in the Gulf of Aden on Tuesday, in the latest assault by the group on the vital shipping lane.
The ship’s captain reported an explosion in the vicinity of the vessel off the coast of Nashtoon in Yemen near the country’s border with Oman, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.
UKMTO said in a warning to seafarers without naming and identifying the flag of the ship that all crew member are safe.
The explosion occurred at the farthest reaches of the waterway previously targeted by the rebels, the center said. It did not elaborate on what caused the explosion, though the Houthis are known to use drones and missiles as well as bomb-carrying drone boats.
The Houthis did not immediately comment, but it could take hours or even days before they acknowledge carrying out an attack. it’s worth mentioned here that the last Houthi attack in the area was on June 28.
