Ship Attacked by Houthis in June Towed Out of Area

The Red Sea and Gulf of Aden Joint Maritime Information Center confirmed on Monday that the Palau-flagged cargo vessel Verbena, which was attacked by  Houthis on June 13, has been towed away from the threat area and is en-route to its next port of call.

The Joint Committee for Monitoring Arms said the ship “Verbena” was attacked with three missiles while crossing the Gulf of Aden 98 nautical miles east of Aden, Yemen. The Houthi group later claimed responsibility for the attack.

As a result, the cargo ship caught fire and the crew was unable to control the it. US Central Command said the ship took on water after the crew was rescued and taken to safe place, adding that one of the crew member was injured in the attack
