UK: UN Supports Demilitarization of Houthi-Held Ports

Yemen Monitor/New York/Exclusive:

The United Kingdom said on Monday that the UN Mission to Support Al-Hodeidah Agreement is playing an important role in supporting the demilitarization of ports under Houthi control in western Yemen.

Ambassador Barbara Woodward, the UK’s Permanent Representative to the UN, said: “The UN Mission to Support Al-Hodeidah Agreement is playing an important role in maintaining vital commercial and humanitarian routes to the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa, including supporting the demilitarization of the ports.”

The three ports are under Houthi control on the Red Sea in the west of the country.

This came during a vote in the UN Security Council to extend the mandate of the UN Mission to Support Al-Hodeidah Agreement for another year.

Woodward stressed: “This sends a clear message about the importance of continuing the ceasefire in Hodeidah and working to maintain it.”

Britain stressed: “The need to end the Houthi restrictions on the movement of the mission and the spread of weapons in Hodeidah.”
