Yemen Monitor/News Room
The Meteorological Center in Yemen on Friday warned of thunderstorms of varying intensity, sometimes accompanied by hail, over scattered areas of the country during the next 24 hours.
The Meteorological Center predicted thunderstorms of varying intensity over parts of the provinces of “Sa’ada, Sana’a, Dhamar, Raymah, Ibb, Ta’izz, Ad Dali’, Al Bayda, and the highlands of Lahj, Abyan, and Shabwah”. Scattered rains, sometimes accompanied by thunder, are expected over parts of the provinces of “West Al Jawf, Amran, Hajjah, Al Mahwit, Hadhramaut, and Al Mahrah” and areas of Tihama Plain, during the afternoon and evening hours.
The Center pointed to a clear to partly cloudy and relatively dusty atmosphere, hot and humid, with maximum temperatures ranging between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius. Winds will be very strong over Socotra Archipelago, reaching speeds of more than 40 knots, and moderate to strong over the eastern and southern coasts, causing dust and sand storms.
In the desert areas, the Meteorological Center predicted a clear to partly cloudy atmosphere, very hot during the day, with maximum temperatures ranging between 39 and 44 degrees Celsius. Winds will be moderate to active, causing dust and haze.
The Meteorological Center warned citizens in areas expected to receive heavy rains to avoid staying in valleys, flood routes, and to take shelter from thunderstorms. It also alerted motorists on mountain roads of reduced visibility due to rain and low clouds, and advised against crossing bridges during floods.
Seafarers, fishermen, and boat captains were warned of rough seas and high waves around Socotra Archipelago, the Gulf of Aden, and the eastern and southern coasts.
Citizens in deserts, plains, and coastal areas were also warned of the hot and extremely hot weather and advised not to expose themselves directly to sunlight during the afternoon.
