Yemeni Islah Party Leader: We Wished There Was Someone to Represent the Legitimacy in Muscat Negotiations

Yemeni Monitor/Marib/Exclusive:

On Thursday, Mohammed al-Yadoumi, the head of the Supreme Committee of the Yemeni Islah Party, expressed his hope that there would be representatives of the legitimate government in Muscat negotiations.

This came in a comment from the party leader on statements by the Houthis and a delegation from the internationally recognized government (legitimacy) about the life of party leader Mohammed Qahtan, who has been kidnapped by the Houthis for nine years.

Al-Yadoumi said: ” Yahya al-Shaeebi, the Director of the Presidency Office, issued a directive to the negotiating team on prisoners and forcibly disappeared persons, stressing to them not to conclude any exchange deal that does not include the release of Mohammed Qahtan or at least the disclosure of his fate.”

He added: “After this directive, a meeting was held in Muscat for the Houthis, who have one point of view, and we wished that the legitimacy had someone to represent it in this meeting.”

Mohammed Qahtan has been kidnapped by the Houthis for 9 years, and the Houthis refuse to provide any information about him. On Wednesday, the Houthis and the government said that it was agreed to exchange 50 Houthi prisoners with the government for Mohammed Qahtan, but if he is dead, he will be released in exchange for 50 bodies!

In a statement on Wednesday, Mohammed Qahtan’s family expressed their anger at the statements described as absurd by the Houthis and members of the internationally recognized government delegation in Muscat negotiations that have been ongoing for 4 days.
