US Military Announces Destruction of Houthi Radar and Drone

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The US military announced on Tuesday the destruction of a Houthi radar site in an area under their control during the past 24 hours. It also announced the downing of a drone that was launched towards the destroyers “Philippine Sea” and “Laboon.”

The US Central Command(CENTCOM) confirmed in a statement that the radar site posed an imminent threat to the US, coalition forces, and commercial ships in the region.

It explained that these measures are being taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters more secure, according to the statement.

On the other hand, the US Central Command said in a statement that its forces shot down a drone launched by the Houthis towards the destroyers “Philippine Sea” and “Laboon” in the Red Sea yesterday.

It added in a statement on “X” that the Houthi group launched three anti-ship ballistic missiles and three drones from Yemen towards the “Cyclades” ship in the Red Sea, noting that it flies the Maltese flag and is owned by Greeks.

The statement said that no injuries were reported on the ship, noting that it continued to sail towards its destination.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea announced on Monday the targeting of two US destroyers and two ships in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean with a number of drones.

At the end of last month, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution with the support of 12 members, with 3 abstentions, including Algeria, reiterating its demand for the Houthi group to immediately stop its attacks on ships in the Red and Arabian Seas.

Since November, the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has recorded more than 190 attacks on US military or commercial ships off the coast of Yemen, including nearly 100 attacks since the start of US airstrikes last January.

The Houthis have sunk two ships, including the Rubaimar in March and the Greek-owned coal carrier Tutor, which was hit in the stern last weeks by a surface boat filled with explosives.

Also in March, the Houthis launched an anti-ship ballistic missile, which set fire to the Barbadian-flagged ship “True Confidence,” killing 3 people.
