The Houthi group claimed on Friday to have targeted four ships in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said that the group’s forces targeted an American ship in the Red Sea with a ballistic missile.

He added, “We targeted a ship that violated the ban we impose in the Red Sea with unmanned boats.”

He also indicated that his group carried out a joint operation with Iraqi militias targeting the oil tanker “Waler” in the Mediterranean Sea with a number of drones.

Earlier on Friday, a British agency reported that missiles fell near ships in the Red Sea, a vital passage for global trade.

On Thursday, the Security Council resolution was adopted with the support of 12 members, while three abstained, including Algeria, according to a statement published by the United Nations on its website.

The resolution – which was drafted by the US and Japan – reiterated the demand that the Houthis immediately release the ship Galaxy Leader and its crew.

It stressed the need to address the root causes, including the conflicts that contribute to regional tension and undermine maritime security, in order to ensure a rapid, efficient and effective response.

The resolution urged caution and restraint to avoid further escalation of the situation in the Red Sea and in the region as a whole.
