The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) confirmed on Monday that 27 Filipino seafarers are safe after a Houthi attack on a merchandise vessel in the Red Sea.
POEA Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said that the entire Filipino crew of M/V Transworld Navigator was unharmed and they were able to escape from the Houthi explosive drones.
Cacdac said: “Their ship was hit, but it was able to flee and is now out of the dangerous area.”
According to a report received by DMW, the Iranian-backed Houthis claimed responsibility for the missile attack on the Liberian-flagged vessel owned and operated by the Greek company.
The US CENTCOM reported that the crew reported minor injuries and moderate damage to the ship, but it continued its journey. However, Cacdac said that no one was injured.
According to the US CENTCOM, the M/V Transworld Navigator recently docked in Malaysia and was on its way to Egypt.
Cacdac said it is likely that the crew will be repatriated to their country as soon as they arrive at a safe port.
