Houthi armed group claimed, on Sunday, that they have targeted a British warship and a number of commercial ships in the Red Sea during the past hours.
The group’s military spokesman said in a press statement that “his group carried out two operations against two ships that violated the decision to ban entry to the ports of occupied Palestine.”
He added, “We carried out a military operation targeting the British destroyer (Diamond) in the Red Sea.”
On the other hand, Houthi media outlets spoke of three US-British raids that targeted Houthi positions in Al-Jabana area west of Hodeidah.
Earlier on Sunday, two British maritime agencies reported that a fire broke out on two ships after they were hit by shells off the coast of Aden in Yemen.
British maritime security company (AMBRY) said a cargo ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda was hit by a missile 83 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni city of Aden, adding that a fire broke out on board the ship but was brought under control.
In a separate context, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received a report from a ship’s captain about another incident 70 nautical miles southwest of Aden.
It said in a navigational warning, “The captain reported that the ship was hit by an unknown projectile on the stern of the ship, which caused fire while the damage is being assessed.
