The British Ministry of Defense said today, Sunday, that Houthi claims of targeting the destroyer “Diamond” in the Red Sea are false.
Earlier, the Houthi group claimed to have targeted the British destroyer “Diamond” and two commercial ships in the Red Sea.
The group’s military spokesman, Yahya Saree, said in a televised statement on Sunday that they targeted the British destroyer with a number of ballistic missiles in the Red Sea, and “the hit was accurate.”
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) – under the British Navy – said at dawn today that it had received reports of a ship being hit by an unknown projectile on the stern, which caused a fire to break out on board, 70 nautical miles southwest of Aden.
The UKMTO added in a statement that “a damage containment operation is underway, and the ship’s captain has not reported any injuries, and the ship is heading to the next port.”
