The Governor of Al-Hodeidah Governorate, Hassan Taher, reiterated that Heis-Al Jarrahi crossing was, and still open by the joint forces (loyal to the Yemeni government) since it announced its initiative to open it unilaterally.
The Governor of Al-Hodeidah said in a press conference he held today, Sunday, at the Heis-Al Jarrahi crossing, “This crossing is of great importance for the movement of civilians, and its opening by the joint forces was for a purely humanitarian purpose to alleviate the suffering of citizens.”
The governor confirmed that “the crossing is closed by the Houthis till now “; stressing that the local authority today raises a call for peace to open this crossing and revive it for the movement of civilian passengers.
The Governor of Al-Hodeidah explained that the situation has become very tragic for families and citizens, calling on the Houthis to respond and open this crossing to reunite families.
He confirmed that the opportunity is now available to open this road in conjunction with opening other roads in other governorates, and that the ball is now in the Houthi’s court to prove their intentions.
In April 2023, member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Tareq Saleh, announced the opening of Heis-Al Jarrahi Road, south of Hodeidah, unilaterally, in response to the demands of the residents of those areas, while the Houthis have so far refused to respond to the initiative.
The Heis-Al Jarrahi Road was included in the Stockholm Agreement signed between the Yemeni government and the Houthis, but the UN team in Hodeidah failed to force the Houthis to open
