“Gulf Cooperation Council” Calls for a Firm Stance Against Houthi Practices that Undermine Peace in Yemen

The ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) today, Sunday, called on the international community to take a firm stance against Houthi practices that undermine peace in Yemen.
In a statement following its meeting in the Qatari capital Doha, the Council affirmed its support for reaching a comprehensive political solution in accordance with the Gulf initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and Security Council Resolution 2216, in a way that preserves the sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and independence of Yemen.
The Council stressed the need for a ceasefire, the importance of the Houthis’ positive engagement with international and UN efforts aimed at ending the Yemeni crisis, and their serious interaction with peace initiatives and efforts.
The Ministerial Council reiterated its support for the efforts of the United Nations led by its Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to reach a comprehensive political solution in accordance with the three references.
The ministers called on the Houthi group to implement all its commitments announced by the UN envoy on December 23, 2023, regarding a set of measures that include implementing a ceasefire that includes all of Yemen, measures to improve living conditions in Yemen, and engaging to resume a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.
The Ministerial Council expressed its deep concern about the developments in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region, stressing the importance of de-escalation to maintain the security and stability of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region.
The GCC Ministerial Council welcomed the continued efforts of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman to revive the political process in Yemen.
