The Qatari capital Doha will host a “Gulf-Yemeni” meeting tomorrow, Sunday, to discuss bilateral relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council and Yemen, and ways to strengthen and enhance them. It is also expected that regional and international issues of common interest will be discussed, especially the ongoing war in Gaza.

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Al-Badawi, announced on Saturday a planned meeting of the foreign ministers of the Council and Yemen in the Qatari capital Doha.

Al-Badawi said in a statement published on the Council’s website that the joint meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, will be held on the sidelines of the 160th ministerial meeting of the Cooperation Council, and will discuss “the situation in brotherly Yemen, and reaffirm the Cooperation Council’s firm position on supporting legitimacy in Yemen and ending the Yemeni crisis by reaching a political solution to the crisis in accordance with the three references, represented by the Gulf initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outputs of the comprehensive national dialogue conference, and Security Council Resolution 2216.”

He added that efforts to enhance joint Gulf efforts to help the Yemeni brothers would be discussed in a way that ensures their stability and security.

Since March 2006, an annual ministerial meeting has been held between the foreign ministers of the Council states and Yemen to exchange views and coordinate between the two sides in all areas. Yemen has also joined many of the Cooperation Council’s institutions.

Yemeni Foreign Minister Shaye’e Al-Zindani is expected to attend the meeting.

In a meeting between the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Yemeni Foreign Minister, Al-Badawi affirmed what was stated in the statement of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council in its 44th session, which included full support for the Presidential Leadership Council headed by Rashad Al-Alimi and the entities supporting it to achieve security and stability in Yemen.
