The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Friday that its forces were able to destroy four drones launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, noting that they also launched two anti-ship missiles, while a fifth drone was destroyed in the Red Sea.
“At approximately 1:30 AM (Sanaa time) on May 31, Iran-backed Houthis launched an unmanned aerial system (UAS) from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen into the Red Sea,” CENTCOM said in a statement on” X”.
It added that the drone crashed in the Red Sea without reports of injuries or damage to US, coalition or commercial ships.
Separately, CENTCOM said that “between 2:53 AM and 10:59 PM (Sana’a time), USCENTCOM forces successfully destroyed one drone over the Gulf of Aden and three drones over the Red Sea launched from Houthi-run areas.”
“At approximately 9:31 PM (Sana’a time), Iran-backed Houthis launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) from Houthi-run areas in Yemen into the Gulf of Aden. No injuries or damage to US, coalition or commercial ships were reported,” it added.
“These systems were determined to pose an imminent threat to the United States, coalition forces and commercial vessels in the region. This action was taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US, coalition and commercial vessels,” CENTCOM concluded its statement.
