Thirteen Filipino crew and one Ukrainian members aboard a cargo ship are safe after it was attacked by Houthis off the coast of Yemen on Tuesday, the Philippine government said Wednesday.

according to the local manning agency of the shipping company ,the ship was hit by four rockets fired by the Houthis, while it was transiting near the Yemeni port of Hodeidah when the attack occurred.

The DMW has not yet disclosed the name of the vessel, but it is said to be continuing its voyage to its port of call.

Meanwhile, the DMW said it is coordinating with shipping and manning agencies for Filipino seafarers to monitor their safety.

The agency is also keeping in touch with the families of the crew members to provide assistance.

The LMA has informed the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) about the incident.

In April, the DMW issued a warning prohibiting the deployment of seafarers in “high-risk areas” (HRAs) and “war-like zones” (WLZs) as identified by the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and the International Bargaining Forum (IBF).

It’s worth mentioned that Filipino seafarers are not allowed to work on board of a passenger ship and cruise ships that are scheduled to sail through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Five more areas have been added to the ITF’s list of areas considered to be under “war-like” conditions and are allocated off the main coast of Yemen, including all ports and the entire Maritime Security Transit Corridor (MSTC) with the exception of the southern part of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, with its boundary starting from the Yemeni coast limit and extending across the Eritrean coast; the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait; the northern Black Sea region; and all ports in Ukraine.
