The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Tuesday that it had received a report of a vessel sustaining damage after being targeted with missiles 31 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah in Yemen.
This came in a statement on its account on “X” platform, in which it stated that the attack is the 75th of its kind, since the start of the crisis of targeting ships in the region by the Houthis months ago.
UKMTO stated that it had received a report of an “incident 31 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen.”
It added: “The master of the merchant vessel reported damage after being shelled at 09:30 UTC.”
The authority stated that at 10:40 UTC, the master reported missiles falling into the sea near the ship.
It quoted the master as confirming the safety of the crew and that the ship is heading to the next port on its route.
The British authority added that it is investigating the attack and advised ships to pass with caution and report any suspicious activity.
Since last November, the Houthis have continued their attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. In contrast, US and Britain launched attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen and re-listed the group on terrorist organizations lists, du to their attacks on commercial ships.
