Yemeni presidential council member Sultan Al-Arada announces establishment of medical city in Marib

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, Major General Sultan Al-Arada, announced on Saturday the establishment of a medical city in Marib Governorate, in addition to Marib General Hospital Authority and the specialized centers, as university hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Saba’a Region.

This came in his speech during the opening session of the first medical conference organized by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Saba’a Region in partnership with the Yemeni Council for Medical and Health Specialties in Marib Governorate.

Al-Arada also announced in his speech the construction of a medical faculty and a university hospital funded by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction in Yemen.

He said: “The holding of the medical conference is an important event in light of the exceptional circumstances that the country has been experiencing since the control of the Houthi terrorist militia over state institutions and the fall of the capital, Sana’a, and their continuous work to restore the trinity of poverty, ignorance and disease (..).”

Al-Arada accused the Houthis of “looting the state resources, waging a war on the national economy, systematically destroying educational institutions, deliberately obscuring the generations, depriving them of their right of education, militarizing schools and universities, and disabling health facilities and infrastructure.”

He called for doubling efforts to confront these practices that target the homeland and the citizen in all governorates, and to resist those actions that would destroy the present and the future.

Al-Arada stressed that “education and learning is the cornerstone of our comprehensive national battle, the driving force for change and strengthening national values, and the effective tool for achieving political, social and economic stability.”

He stressed the importance of academic qualification, and the preparation of scientifically and professionally qualified cadres capable of effectively contributing to the development and advancement of society, and working to establish the foundations of scientific research in support of the efforts of students and researchers to discover new things and provide innovative solutions to the existing problems in various vital sectors.

Al-Arada pointed out that “the advancement of the health sector is a top priority for the political leadership and the government, which is working to build a strong and sustainable health system capable of meeting the needs of citizens (..)”.

Al-Arada reiterated the affirmation of the political leadership’s continued support for universities in completing the infrastructure and supporting the implementation of plans and visions aimed at developing universities in various academic and research fields.

For his part, the President of the University of Saba’a Region, Muhammad Al-Qadasi, said that “the medical conference seeks to come out with recommendations that reflect the importance of medical research and enable it to face the challenges with a great deal of knowledge and objectivity and enhance the quality of medical education and the outputs of the Faculty of Medicine, leading to the advancement of the level of health care for the community.”
