Amnesty International Calls on Houthis to Release Detained Education Expert Unlawfully

Amnesty International called on the armed Houthi group today, Tuesday, to release education expert Majib al-Makhlfy, who has been detained unlawfully by the Houthi authorities.

In a brief statement, the organization said that the expert and educator, Majib al-Makhlfy, has been held incommunicado and without charge by the Houthi de facto authorities since October 10, 2023, in Sana’a.

It added that after his arrest, he was arbitrarily disappeared for 21 days and was held in isolation from the outside world for more than a month at the detention center run by the Houthi security and intelligence service in Sana’a, where he remains to this day.

The organization emphasized that Makhlfy is being held by the armed group without charge and is being denied his right to access a lawyer. He must be released immediately.
