The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council affirmed its keenness on supporting the government’s efforts and facilitating the exercise of its full powers to alleviate human suffering and achieve the aspirations of the Yemeni people in restoring state institutions, security, stability, and peace.

This came during a meeting of the Presidential Leadership Council, headed by Council Chairman Rashad al-Alim, and attended by its members, Aidarous al-Zubaidi, Abdulrahman al-Mahrami, Othman Majli, and Sultan al-Arada, Abdullah al-Alim, and Faraj al-Bahsani via video link.

The official Yemeni news agency, Saba, reported that the meeting listened to a briefing from Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak on the indicators of public finances and the national economy, and the government’s performance during the past period.

The agency added that the Prime Minister presented a general framework for the government’s work program, its priorities in all fields, and the required presidential support on various tracks.

The framework addressed the government’s plans in accordance with the recommendations of the Presidential Leadership Council on combating corruption, rationalizing spending, optimizing the use of foreign aid and grants, developing resources, and working to reorganize the relationship with local authorities and the donor community.

The Presidential Leadership Council commended the government’s efforts to reduce the budget deficit, the state’s continued fulfillment of its inevitable obligations, and the continuation of comprehensive reforms supported by the regional and international community.

This comes at a time when the Presidential Council and the Yemeni government face common challenges in areas under their control, most notably the stumbling block of salary disbursements due to the suspension of oil exports as a result of Houthi threats, in addition to the suspension of basic services, primarily electricity.
