Four Sisters Drown in Water Dam in Central Yemen

Local sources and residents reported on Sunday the death of four sisters who drowned in a dam in one of the towns of Ibb Governorate, central Yemen.

Residents and eyewitnesses said that “four sisters, the eldest of whom was 13 years old, drowned in a dam built by the residents to collect rainwater for irrigation of their crops in Al-Sahul area in Ibb Governorate.”

According to the sources, the four girls are Abdel Hamids Ahmed Qasim Al-Gharbani daughters, from the residents of Wadi Melhama area in Al-Sahul, administratively affiliated to the Al-Makhdar Directorate, north of Ibb.”

The sources explained that “one of the sisters slipped into the barrier, so her sister tried to rescue her but she also drowned, so the third and fourth intervened consecutively to lose their lives all together.”

Dams and water barriers in Yemen witness similar drowning accidents, which couse losing of lives of dozens, mostly children, especially with the rainfall and holiday seasons.
