Yemeni President emphasizes the difficulty of achieving peace in the absence of a “serious partner”

Yemeni Presidential Council President Rashad Al-Alimi confirmed on Sunday the difficulty of achieving sustainable peace in the absence of a serious partner who give priority for the interests of the Yemeni people over those of the Iranian ones (referring to the armed Houthi group)
This came during his reception on Sunday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, of the European Union’s top representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Deputy Chairman of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, according to the official Yemeni news agency.
During the meeting, they discussed local developments, European interventions needed to alleviate humanitarian suffering, as well as developments in the region and a number of issues of mutual interest.
Al-Alimi praised “the bilateral and collective relations with the European Union countries, and its firm stance alongside the Yemeni people, its constitutional legitimacy, and its right to regain state institutions, security, peace, and development.”
Al-Alimi presented the European official with “the latest developments in the Yemeni situation, the serious human rights violations by the Houthi militias, their terrorist attacks on the national and regional levels, and their repercussions on the living and economic conditions of the Yemeni people, the peoples of the region, and international peace and security.”
The President of the Presidential Council reaffirmed the council’s and government’s commitment to comprehensive and just peace based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed upon references, particularly Security Council resolution 2216.
He also affirmed in this context full support for Saudi Arabia’s efforts and the UN Special Envoy for launching a comprehensive political process that meets the aspirations of all Yemenis in restoring state institutions that guarantee equal citizenship and public freedoms.”
Since October 2022, Yemen has been experiencing a fragile ceasefire between the legitimate government and the Houthi group, which the latter violates from time to time in plain view of the world.
