Germany plans to send a new frigate to protect ships in the Red Sea

Germany said on Saturday that it will send a new frigate to the Red Sea in August to help secure maritime navigation, which has been disrupted for months due to Houthi attacks.
On the word of its Defense Minister Boris Pistorius it added that “Hamburg” will replace “Hessen,” which left the region on Saturday.
The ship “Hessen” had been deployed in the region on February 23 as part of the EU mission “Atalanta” to protect ships in the area.
The statement said that “Hamburg” accompanied 27 merchant ships in the intervention area and repelled attacks by drones and missiles launched by the Houthis on four occasions, with around 240 military personnel on board.
