Medical sources reported on Saturday the third death from cholera and watery diarrhea in Abs district Hajjah province western Yemen.
The sources explained that the district has recorded dozens of cases of cholera and watery diarrhea in recent days, and during Eid al-Fitr.
Local residents said that the epidemic is spreading widely among the residents of the district and neighboring districts, amid the government authorities in the district ignoring the citizens’ appeals.
Most parts of Hajjah Governorate, including Red Sea coastal areas, have been under the control of the Houthi group since 2014.
Yemen is facing a new wave of cholera, which is dampening the joy of Eid al-Fitr amid the increasing health and economic challenges.
The health authorities in the provinces under the control of the Yemeni government have recorded more than 140 new suspected cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2,900 since mid-October last year.
The city of Taiz is at the forefront of the areas affected by the disease, where more than 100 confirmed cases and 584 suspected cases have been identified.
The Yemeni Minister of Health warned of the situation getting out of control with the start of the rainy season, and called on international organizations to intervene urgently.
