The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday that it had destroyed an air defense system and a ground control station belonging to the Houthi group in Yemen.
“CENTCOM successfully destroyed an air defense system with two missiles ready to launch, and a ground control station (belonging to the Houthis) on Monday,” CENTCOM said in a statement on”X”.
It added that it also destroyed “a drone over the Red Sea in an area controlled by the group in Yemen.”
In a related context, CENTCOM reported that on April 7, “a ballistic anti-ship missile was launched from a Houthi-controlled area (not specified) towards the coalition tanker M/V Hope in the Gulf of Aden, with no reported injuries or damage.”
It pointed out that “CENTCOM is committed to protecting freedom of navigation and making international waters safe and secure for coalition and commercial vessels.”
Since November, the Houthis have continued their attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. In response, the United States and Britain launched attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen and re-listed the group as a terrorist organization following their attacks on commercial ships.
