“The Yemeni Presidential Council” accuses the Houthis of evading signing the roadmap to escalation in the Red Sea

Yemeni Presidential Council leader Rashad Al-Alimi accused the armed Houthi group of evading signing the roadmap to military escalation in the Red Sea on Tuesday evening.
This came in a speech by Al-Alimi on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, according to the official Yemeni news agency.
Al-Alimi stated, “We welcomed the mediation of our brothers in Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman, which led to a peace roadmap project that included a series of confidence-building measures that should lead to a comprehensive solution based on national, regional, and international references, and set the stage for a transitional phase towards the desired peace.”
He added, “We were keen in our handling of these efforts to alleviate the suffering of citizens in areas forcibly controlled by the Houthis through urgent measures to deliver salaries, open roads, release detainees, abducted individuals, and those held captive, according to the principle of ‘everyone in exchange for everyone,’ initiatives that we continue to support to this moment.”
He continued, “After we were on the verge of signing the roadmap, the militias decided to escape from their commitments to peace and escalate destructively in the Red Sea under the pretext of supporting Gaza.”
In late December 2023, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg announced the commitment of the Yemeni government and the Houthi group to a set of measures within a roadmap that would lead to a “comprehensive ceasefire” throughout the country and improve the living conditions of citizens.
