The US military announced on Sunday that its forces destroyed an air defense missile system in a Houthi-run area in Yemen on Saturday.
The US Central Command said in a statement that its forces destroyed an air defense missile system in an area controlled by the Houthi group, along with destroying a drone and missiles in the Red Sea.
It confirmed that “(there were no casualties to our forces or coalition forces in the Red Sea).”
At the same time, the Houthi group announced that it had carried out 5 military operations against British, American and Israeli ships off the coast of Yemen during the past 72 hours.
Earlier, the British maritime security company Ambri said it had received information about a ship being attacked on Sunday in the Gulf of Aden, about 102 nautical miles southwest of Mukalla in Yemen.
The company added, “We have advised ships in the vicinity to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.” It did not indicate who was responsible for the attack, and did not provide further details.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations Authority said a missile landed near a ship in the Gulf of Aden on Sunday, 59 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port of Aden, but did not damage the ship or injure its crew.
The Authority added in a memo, “A missile was reported to have landed in the water near the port side of the stern of the ship (…) No damage to the ship has been reported, and the crew is reported to be safe.”
Since November, the Houthis have continued their attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. In response, the United States and Britain have carried out attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen, and have re-listed the group as a terrorist organization, following their attacks on commercial ships.
