Yemeni President Rashad Al-Alimi stated that America and the West have come to realize the need to militarily defeat the Houthis in order to reach a peace agreement with them in the country, emphasizing the government forces’ need for support to regain areas controlled by the Houthis since September 2014.
Al-Alimi also mentioned in a television interview that the presidential council and the government rejected a US request to join the American alliance to protect the Red Sea from Houthi attacks, pointing out that Yemenis have been affected by the crisis in the Red Sea and are paying the price of Iran’s conspiracy.
He continued, “The Houthis are following Iran’s instructions in the Red Sea crisis and obstructing peace efforts.”
Al-Alimi highlighted that the Yemeni government had been suffering from weakness and fragmentation that had repercussions on its internal and regional relations, noting that “the Presidential Council succeeded in ending internal conflicts and normalizing stability in Aden.”
The Yemeni President affirmed that “confronting the Houthis and reclaiming the state is the goal of the National Army and other military formations loyal to the council and the government (referring to the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces and the forces supported by Tareq Saleh)
