The Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, stressed his country’s permanent support for mediation efforts to resolve the crisis in Yemen.
This came during a phone call with his Yemeni counterpart, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, to discuss the latest developments in Yemen, Gaza Strip, and bilateral relations, according to the Qatari Foreign Ministry via “X”.
During the phone call on Wednesday, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman affirmed Qatar’s full support for mediation efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis through negotiations between Yemenis based on the outcomes of the National Dialogue, the Gulf Initiative, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly resolution 2216.
He also stressed Qatar’s permanent support for Yemen and its continuous support for its people until they achieve their aspirations for security, stability, and development.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry indicated that the call also touched on the latest developments in Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, and reviewed the cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to support and strengthen them.
On March 18, the Yemeni government announced the suspension of the UN roadmap for a ceasefire with the Houthi group, due to the latter’s escalation in the Red Sea and its threat to maritime navigation.
In mid-last month, the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said that mediation efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis have become more complex, and that Yemenis are sharing him his sense of impatience in achieving their aspirations.
In late December 2023, the United Nations announced the commitment of the Yemeni government and the Houthi group to a set of measures for a comprehensive ceasefire throughout the country and to improve the living conditions of citizens.
