A Yemeni human rights observatory announced on Tuesday the killing of two civilians in a landmine explosion in Lahij governorate southern Yemen.
The Yemen Mine Observatory (non-governmental) said in a statement, “Two civilians were killed as a result of a landmine explosion while riding their motorcycles on a secondary road in AL- Kahboub area of Al Matarba directorate in Lahj governorate.”
The statement pointed out that “Kahboub” is an area contaminated with mines planted by the Houthis, and after the incident, engineering teams were able to remove a number of mines.
On Friday, six civilians were injured with various injuries as a result of a landmine explosion from the remnants of the Houthis in their vehicle on a road west of Taiz governorate southwestern Yemen.
The Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights accuses the Houthis of planting more than a million mines in Yemeni governorates since the beginning of the war in 2015, a percentage considered the highest since World War II.
Civilians, travelers, livestock herders, farmers, children, women, displaced persons, and even animals face serious life-threatening dangers, in addition to the emergence of psychological and social deformities among mine victims.
