Television: United States deploys missile defenses in Socotra
Yemen Monitor/ Aden/ private:
Sky News TV reported on Wednesday that the U.S. has deployed missile defenses in the Yemeni archipelago province of Socotra.
The United Arab Emirates has a military base in the archipelago, which is under the control of the Southern Transitional Council(STC) supported by Abu Dhabi.
The television channel, which is close to the UAE, quoted an American defense official as saying: “We have bolstered our missile defenses on the island of Socotra.” He added that “these measures are to intercept long-range missiles that the Houthis may launch.”
He further stated: “Our actions in Socotra are in anticipation of the Houthis targeting American bases in the region.”
The Yemeni government has not yet commented on these reports.
Earlier, Yemen Monitor had revealed that Abu Dhabi had offered the United States to use its military bases in Socotra archipelago to confront the Houthis, who were considering attacking the archipelago to target these bases.
