Eisenhower Captain: Political Decision Prevents Targeting Iran Because of the Red Sea
Yemen Monitor/Sanaa/Private:
US Admiral leading the “Eisenhower” strike group, stated that Iran-backed Houthis do not act on their own in the Red Sea.
Admiral Marc Miguez, commander of the American aircraft carrier strike group Eisenhower”, accused Iran of being behind Houthi attacks.”
“Iran is backing the Houthis right now, not only with weapons and technology, but also providing targeting information intelligence and support,” he says.
When asked by BBC why the United States does not target Iran as well, he said, “That is a political decision, but its roots start from Iran.”
He pointed out that the continuation of maritime trade is evidence that their presence has achieved some success.
The American admiral believes that the strikes led by the United States, with the assistance of Britain, have indeed weakened some of the Houthis’ military capabilities. However, they certainly did not deter or stop them.
In reality, US President Joe Biden does not want to spark a wider Middle East conflict, particularly in an election year.
Admiral Marc Miguez, said they will remain “as long as there is a need for us.”
Since November, the Houthis have repeatedly targeted ships in the Red Sea and Bab-el-Mandeb Strait due to the Israeli brutal attack on Gaza. They said they are targeting ships associated with Israel.
In response, the United States and Britain have been conducting airstrikes against Iran-backed Houthi militants since January 11. As a result, the Houthis announced expanding their operations to include American and British ships.
