The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Sunday a new maritime incident approximately 85 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni city of Aden.

“We have received a report of an incident approximately 85 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen,” the UKMTO said in a statement on its website.

The UKMTO quoted the master of the merchant vessel as saying that there was “no damage” to the ship and that its crew was “safe.”

The ship master reported “an explosion in the vicinity” of the vessel, which is “proceeding to its next port of call,” without specifying its destination.

The UKMTO also called on vessels sailing in the area to “exercise caution and report any suspicious activity,” while the relevant authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Earlier on Sunday, the UKMTO reported an “attempted missile attack on a Marshall Islands-flagged LNG tanker approximately 85 nautical miles southeast of Aden.”

Since November, the Houthis have continued their attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. In response, the United States and Britain have carried out attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen and have re-designated the group as a terrorist organization due to their attacks on commercial vessels.
